About the role

The Electrical Systems Engineer role is a key position on Bellwether’s Hardware Development team focused on developing, reviewing and refining high level requirements, specifications and more. As a more senior member of the electrical team, they will guide and mentor team members’ work in the area, and nurture/develop team expertise. The position requires a depth of experience in electrical engineering, development and troubleshooting of embedded hardware, as well as solid programming skills. The position reports to our Director of Hardware Engineering, and works closely with team members throughout our technology organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, review  and manage the development and refinement of  high level requirements, specifications, schematics, wiring diagrams, HW test plan and instructions; while decomposing, prioritizing and specifying select processor and controller hardware to control durable electromechanical equipment/system composed of: air blowers, heaters, valves, mechanical actuators, thermal sensors, humidity sensors and pressure sensors
  • Lead, develop and mentor team members to execute design, develop and qualify Sub-Systems, EE-integration, test plans for each sub-assemblies; as well as define and build necessary HWIL & SWIL for lean testing with eventual automated testing
  • Develop and nurture team expertise in the design of hardware systems/durable equipment used in food and beverage retail environments; define and develop standards for design, reviews and reliability testing to support formalize V&V
  • Design, develop, code, test and debug HW for equipment/HW lab, integration and installation V&V
  • Lead, facilitate and coordinate planned and structured detail design reviews for equipment H/W development plan, lab test code, as required, and V&V protocols
  • Analyze and enhance efficiency, stability and scalability of HW embedded resources
  • Lead HW field failure analysis/investigations (FAI) and resolution projects 
  • Provide technical guidance and incorporate/support adoption of system engineering methods
  • Identify potential risks and devise mitigation strategies related to developing requirements, verification and validation plans
  • Conceptualize innovative and creative designs using strong analytical and problem solving skills, both independently and as part of a design team


  • 10-15 years Electrical Engineering experience
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or other relevant Engineering discipline
  • Experience with hands-on development and troubleshooting on embedded hardware
  • Solid programming experience in C or C++; and Python
  • Experience doing embedded systems design in high complexity systems
  • Experience successfully navigating HW/SW configuration management tools, defect tracking tools, change management and peer reviews
  • Keen eye for vetting/reading schematics and data sheets for components
  • Experience developing schematics for system wiring and connection to off the shelf controllers, interface boards, and power supplies
  • Strong technical planning, design, protocol and development execution skills
  • Demonstrated ability/aptitude to deliver high quality product designs with focus on DFM and DFS 
  • Eligibility to work in the United States
  • Proof of full vaccination for COVID-19 is required before commencing work onsite at Bellwether Headquarters


  • Experience in project engineering and development within OSHA/NFPA/CE guidelines
  • Experience in phase gate development/commercial process such as PDP (Product Development Process)
